Sonntag, den 21.September 2014: Akademie der Künste Hanseatenweg – Gespräch 11 Uhr im Studio. Fünf Jahrzehnte zeitgenössisches Theater. Archiveröffnung Schaubühne.
Ein vollkommener gelungener, informativer Sonntag Vormittag! Die Moderation hatte Gerhard Jörder, der seinen Gesprächspartnern so kenntnisreiche und vernünftige Fragen stellte. Er begann mit Jürgen Schitthelm (Gesellschafter Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz), der vom Studententheater kam und zu den Gründern der Schaubühne gehört (1962). Es war ein großes Vergnügen, Tina Engel zuzuhören, die 24 Jahre an der Schaubühne war und seit 2001 auch Regie führt. Auf die Frage, was sich seit “damals” geändert hat, antwortet Tina Engel:”Wir hatten Z E I T und R A U M ! “Steinzeit.” – Die “gute Zeit” hat auch Sabine Ganz miterlebt. Sie begann zu Anfang der 1970er Jahre das Archiv aufzubauen und hat es auch lange geleitet.

Although Peter Stein with the Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer in West Berlin has made two films on his own theatre productions, he is not considered a filmmaker and these adaptations seldom reach international festivals save as side- attractions. Nevertheless, Summer Guests and Trilogie des Wiedersehens are filmic adaptations, not filmed theatre, and the ensemble has produced many noted actors in the New German Cinema movement: Bruno Ganz, Edith Clever, Angela Winkler. In addition, Gorky’s play, Summer Guests, was originally “rewritten” as a screenplay for the ensemble,
then changed back into a stage production on a kind of movie set, and finally filmed in its theatre version. The dramatist-scriptwriter, Botho Strauss, on the project used the experience to conceive Trilogie des Wiedersehens as a wedding of the two related but opposing artistic forms. Peter Stein produced this social comedy about an Art Society in the provinces congregating for a special preview of its new exhibition, then filmed it on a reconstructed set.
