And three Oscars were awarded to: Roman Polanski, Ronald Harwood, and Adrien Brody as Wladyslaw Szpilman, the concert pianist who survived the Holocaust.
This year, Studio Babelsberg has another production calling-card that is already making headlines: Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days is currently being shot on location on Gendarmenmarkt in the heart of Berlin see photo above. Work on the »Old London« set with the Bank of England began last January, shooting started a week before the Cannes festival opened, and tourists in neighboring hotels can get a bird’s eye view of Jackie Chan as Passepartout, Steve Coogan as Phileas Fogg, and Kathy Bates as Queen Victoria. To say nothing of an antique air-machine and a French coach and other fantasies from the Jules Verne classic. Stop by this is a real attraction!
