Languages & The Media 4th International Conference & Exhibition
It took place again at the Hotel Inter-Continental Berlin, 4 - 6 December 2002, with more participants registered than ever before. The general theme, of course, is subtitling but what a broad field of scholarly research and experiment this has become! Supported by major governmental, educational, cultural, and commercial institutions, the conference offered workshops, addresses, panel discussions, and exhibition space. Mary Carroll, whose TITELBILD Subtitling and Translation GmbH company is based in Berlin, lectured on the advances made in the important area of »Language Transfer for Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and Sight-Impaired Audiences«. Sara Hildebrandt, her colleague at TITELBILD, ventured into new territory with her experience in »DVD and Its Impact on the Language Industry«. As for the Pre-Conference Workshops, for which pre-registration was required, these were lively classroom-type sessions with experts offering learning experiences with clear agendas and identifiable goods.
